How to survive on Twitter…

My guide to surviving Twitter…  It’s all pretty easy and straightforward.  In no particular order:

  • Don’t take things personally
    • Don’t presume subtweets are about you, as, let’s be honest, it isn’t all about you!
    • No point reading into things too much (or at all)
  • Twitter isn’t a dating site and shouldn’t be used in the same way
    • Don’t slide into peoples DMs unnecessarily, no-one likes a slider
    • People talk so inappropriate messages will be discussed and people will be warned about you
    • If people have told you that you are being inappropriate then listen to them
    • Don’t be a creep
    • If you don’t want to receive DMs from people that you don’t follow then up your privacy settings
  • Be aware of fake profiles
  • Dick pics aren’t for twitter, other people will disagree with this
    • Who wants to see pictures of dicks on social media?!
  • Don’t be afraid to block
  • Don’t worry if someone blocks you, that’s their problem not yours
  • You can mute conversations, people, messages etc
  • Don’t be afraid to leave group chats
  • You don’t have to be friends with everyone
    • No everyone has to like you and you don’t have to like everyone
    • Don’t take offence to easily
  • You don’t have to share everything
    • The beauty is you can share what you want, when you want
  • You can / will meet some incredible people on here who will make you realise that you are not alone
  • Don’t copy tweets, plagiarism isn’t cool
    • Give credit where credit is due
  • Stick up for yourself, if you need to
  • The #TwitterFam is an incredible support network
  • You shouldn’t read tone from tweets
  • Don’t be offended if you are not invited to meet-ups
  • Not everyone will agree with your views and not everyone has to
    • Be prepared for people to have a different opinion
    • People will give their opinions whether you like it or not
  • Know when to stop / give up on something
    • No-one likes those people who go on and on and on…
  • You don’t have to know everything about everyone
  • Be yourself
    • No-one likes a faker
    • Don’t be afraid to voice your opinion
  • Listen to the advice that people give out
    • There are some incredibly wise people on here who can help you
    • People do care
  • Practice what you preach tweet
  • Learn from it, respect it
  • Be prepared for weirdos, there are sadly many of them out there
  • Remember it isn’t real life
  • Don’t be afraid to say sorry
    • People misinterpret things on twitter all the time, it is ok to admit you were in the wrong
  • Treat people the way you want to be treated
    • Don’t be a twatter!
